Taking a look at the biggest upsets from Week 1

-FFB HUB Staff

The first NFL Sunday of 2020 is in the books, and there were three major upsets to start out the 2020 season.

Jacksonville 27 Indianapolis 20

Minshew Mania Continues!

So much for tanking! Gardner Minshew had himself a day for the Jacksonville Jaguars!

After releasing Running Back Leonard Fournette and trading Defensive End Yannick Ngakoue to the Vikings, it seemed like the Jaguars were in full tanking mode to start of the 2020 season. Nick Foles was signed by the Bears in the off season, and it seemed like that the Jaguars were putting themselves in great position to get Clemson Quarterback Trevor Lawrence at #1 in the 2021 NFL Draft. It very well might still play out that way, but the Jaguars are 1-0 and Minshew Mania isn’t going anywhere anytime soon!

Minshew threw three touchdowns to three different receviers and only threw one incompletion the entire game. The Colts came into 2020 as one of the favorites to win the AFC South with former Charger Phillip Rivers leading the way. The Colts should be able to bounce back, but it will be interesting to see if Game 1 was just a fluke, or if the Jaguars will be able to be competitive as Gardner continues to make a name for himself in Jacksonville.

We have no doubt that both Minshew and Bud Light were proud of his game 1 performance.

Phillip Rivers finished the game 36/46 for 363 yards, 1 Touchdown and 2 Interceptions. Marlon Mack was injured in the game and lost for the season. Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines played well, and will be heavily relied upon moving forward. Wide Receiver Parris Campbell also looked good catching 6 passes for 71 yards on 9 targets.

Washington 27 Philadelphia 17

The Washington Football Team is 1-0

The team with the sort of new name is 1-0. The Washington Football Team defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 27-17 on Sunday. The most impressive part of this game was the defense for Washington. Washington’s defense forced a fumble, had two interceptions and 8 sacks on Sunday.

Washington’s first round pick from the 2020 draft Chase Young had an immediate impact in Week 1 with 1.5 sacks.

Down 17-0 in the second quarter, Washington scored 27 unanswered points to defeat the Eagles. Running back Peyton Barber had two rushing touchdowns and tight end Logan Thomas caught a touchdown pass from Dwayne Haskins.

For the Eagles, Tight End Dallas Goedert from South Dakota State looked great in this one with 8 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Arizona 24 San Francisco 20

The Wild West just got Wilder

The toughest division this season will be the NFC West. The only team to lose from the NFC West on Sunday was the Super Bowl Runner Up from last season – the San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks and Rams looked good in their match ups as well.

Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins looked impressive in their upset victory over the 49ers. Kyler had 230 passing yards and a touchdown, and 91 rushing yards and a touchdown. (Murray was at 100 yards but lost yardage due to taking a knee in victory formation).

After securing his massive contract, DeAndre Hopkins picked up where he left off in Houston with 14 catches for 151 yards.

For the 49ers, Mostert played well with 56 rushing yards, and a receiving touchdown on 95 receiving yards.

The Cardinals looked impressive in this one pulling off the upset on the road. The NFC West is up for grabs this year, and the playoffs might have several NFC West teams taking part this season!

Which upset do you think was the biggest?

Looking forward to seeing what upsets are in store for Week 2!
